links
Links are one of the biggest sources for accessibility failures. 50% of all websites contain empty links. These are links that have no accessible information about their purpose, like for example a link with just an icon and no alternative text. This means that a person who uses a screen reader or braille displays just knows that there is a link but not what it does.
Available techniques:
- Avoid empty links
Links with just a visible icon offer a text alternative for assistive technologies
- Ignore decorative icons
Icons with adjacent text can be ignored by assistive technology.
